Roes Challenge Fades at the Close

Owen Roes 0-12 Strabane Sigersons 1-11

Owen Roes second string looked well on course to defeat rivals Strabane in this league cup game in Dunamanagh on Friday evening. Five points up at one stage, the younger legs of the away side took charge to take the game away late in the contest.

Mark O'Neill, Sean Ferguson and a pair of John Harper frees got Owen Roes off to a great start before Strabane got their opening scores of the game. O'Neill and Ferguson got their second score each either side of a Kevin O'Donnell effort as it looked all rosy for the hosts.

The Sigersons scored twice more in the final third of the half either side of a Kiernan Kelly point, and when Harper and O'Neill tagged on a couple more it was Roe's to the fore. Kevin O'Donnell had a late goal chance but the Strabane net minder made a decent stop.

Kiernan Kelly got the second half's opening score, but this was to be a false dawn as Strabane rattled off 0-4 and a successful penalty from Aodhan Stewart with Owen Roes only reply from Conor McCay. Owen Roes were on the ropes at this stage and three more Strabane scores ended their bid.
