Reserves in Second Half Blitz
Owen Roes 2-13 Castlederg 3-5
The reserve footballers of Owen Roes commenced the 2008 ACL season with a good
win on home soil against Castlederg. However it took a spirited second half
showing before the hosts pulled clear.
Mark O'Neill and John Harper shared four points early on to set up what seemed like a routine win for the home side. This proved to be a false dawn though as two neatly taken Castlederg goals got them back in it. O'Neill capitalized on a lose ball to bag a major of his on, but two late Derg points ended the half.
HalfTime - 1-4 to 2-4
A difficult task was doubled early in the second half as Castlederg tagged on a goal to their tally to lead by six. O'Neill, and a Charlie McLaughlin goal though kept the hosts alive. A visiting dead ball returned the three point cushion, but the hosts were about to shut shop, with Darren Devine, Gerard McShane and Brian Kelly getting a foot hold at the back.
At the other end Mark O'Neill with 4 points and Conor McCay with a point meant that the hosts were upping the ante. A pair of John Harper dead balls, and a neat Sean og Devine point saw the O'Neills home and dry.
