Owen Roes Under 16s Lift Championship
On Saturday Eoghain Rua Ui Neill won the
U-16 Championship title grade 3, when they defeated Moortown in the final on
the score of 1-10 to 1-8.
The game began with Eoghain Rua making the
early running and points by Brian Conway, Christopher Kelly and Gary
Williamson suggested an easy victory.
But too many relatively easy chances were
being wasted and Moortown hit back with a goal. Christopher Kelly restored the
Eoghain Rua lead but this was cancelled out by a similar Moortown score to
leave the half time tally reading 0-4 to 1-1.
On the resumption Eoghain Rua took control
of the game and went five points clear through scores from Brian Conway 0-1,
Gary Williamson 1-0, and Ronan McDaid 0-1. Then Moortown recovered control of
midfield by moving their goalie outfield and they pegged Eoghain Rua back to
level the scores entering the final quarter.
At this stage it was anyone’s game but the
Eoghain Rua team showed their character and came back for scores through Brian
Conway, Dylan Early and Christopher Kelly to end with a two point winning
margin. Following the game the trophy was presented to the winning Eoghain Rua
team.
