Owen Roes Under 16s Lift Championship

On Saturday Eoghain Rua Ui Neill won the U-16 Championship title grade 3, when they defeated Moortown in the final on the score of 1-10 to 1-8.

The game began with Eoghain Rua making the early running and points by Brian Conway, Christopher Kelly and Gary Williamson suggested an easy victory.

But too many relatively easy chances were being wasted and Moortown hit back with a goal. Christopher Kelly restored the Eoghain Rua lead but this was cancelled out by a similar Moortown score to leave the half time tally reading 0-4 to 1-1.

On the resumption Eoghain Rua took control of the game and went five points clear through scores from Brian Conway 0-1, Gary Williamson 1-0, and Ronan McDaid 0-1. Then Moortown recovered control of midfield by moving their goalie outfield and they pegged Eoghain Rua back to level the scores entering the final quarter.

At this stage it was anyone’s game but the Eoghain Rua team showed their character and came back for scores through Brian Conway, Dylan Early and Christopher Kelly to end with a two point winning margin. Following the game the trophy was presented to the winning Eoghain Rua team.
