Owen Roe's were in Grade 2B.
Thurs 30th June - Owen Roe's 3-6 Tattyreagh 1-8
The
Owen Roes under-16 side got the 2005 season off to a fruitful start. Dermot
McMenamin got the scoring under way with a point, before Kevin O'Neill put
himself on the line to bravely punch to the net shortly after. McMenamin also
hit the net with a goal of his own minutes later following good work from Conor
McCrea on the line. The half-time score read 2-1 to 0-4 in favor of the home
side.
The second half was as tight as the first half with perhaps the visitors shading it in terms of possession. Barry Doherty and Conor McCay hit scores before Kevin O'Neill was fouled in the box. The resulting penalty was netted by McMenamin. Tattyreagh can count themselves unlucky not to take anything from this game. They accrued a number of wides in this half which ultimately cost them the game. With ten minutes to go Ryan Devine made a great reaction stop to prevent a Tattyreagh goal. However Logue twice, and Davy Harte knocked over to give Roes the points.
Owen Roes: Ryan Devine, Aaron Doherty, Gerard Devine, Stephen McAuley, Davy Harte (0-1), Ryan O'Neill, Gerard McShane, Marcus McGinley, Kevin O'Neill (1-0), Damian Hannigan, Conor McCay (0-1), Ryan Logue (0-2), Conor McCrea, Dermot McMenamin (2-1), Barry Doherty (0-1)
Thurs 7th July - Augher 2-19 Owen Roe's 3-4
An impressive Augher side were too much for Owen Roes in this grade 2 league encounter. Augher were always on top, against the North Tyrone side. Dermot McMenamin, Gerard McShane and Conor McCrea were among the goals, with Marcus McGinley hitting a couple of points.
Thurs 14th July - Owen Roe's 6-11 Urney 1-2
Urney were the visitors to Glenmornan on Thursday night for the 3rd round of fixtures, and lost out to a rampant home outfit. Despite the scores attained by the home side, the pick of the Owen Roes play was arguably in defense. Sean Ferguson, Gerard Devine, and Gerard McShane all remained solid in front of Ryan Devine. Conor McIntyre and playmaker Conor McCrea also put in good displays. Owen Roes 6-11 Uney 1-2 Scorers v Urney: Kevin O’Neill 1-3, Dermot McMenamin 1-1, Aaron Lynch 1-2, Conor McCay 1-4, Aaron Doherty 1-1, Eamon McAuley 1-0.
Thurs 21st July - Owen Roe's 3-6 Loughmacrory 5-9
U16
group leaders Loughmacrory were the visitos to Glenmornan last night, and had to
battle to emerge with their 100% record. Goals from Ryan ‘Lugger’ Logue and
Aaron Doherty gave Owen Roes a 2-2 to 0-4 half time lead.
However the visitors stormed back to win the contest by seven points despite a Marcus McGinley major. Ryan Devine saved a penalty kick for the second week in succession.
Thurs 28th July - Tattyreagh 1-5 Owen Roe's 1-5
Owen Roes and Tattyreagh shared out a 1-5 apiece draw in the latest round of the U16 league. A penalty from Marcus McGinley was the Owen Roes goal scorer.
Thurs 4th August - Owen Roe's 1-5 Gortin 3-14
The
juveniles were back in action on Thursday night last, as they hosted Gortin.
After 60 minutes the lads realized the step up in class that grade 2 is, when
they ended up on the wrong side of a 3-13 to 1-5 result.
However despite the defeat Hugo Devine’s side find themselves still in with a strong shout of reaching the knockout stages.
Wed 10th August - Owen Roe's lost to Augher
A goal from Conor McCay failed to save the home side from defeat in this grade 2 clash with Augher. It was a brave effort from the under strength U16 side as Augher lead the section, however all the efforts eventually fell short.
Tues 16th August - Urney beat Owen Roe's by 5 points
From a previous position of strength the Owen Roes U16s now find themselves struggling to qualify for the latter stages of the league knock out section. The boys traveled to Urney tonight and lost out by 5 points. Once again Conor McCay was the Owen Roes' net finder.
Sat 20th August - Gortin 5-19 Owen Roes 1-4
No wins in 6 games mean that Owen Roes chances of progressing to the league knock-out stages have hit a bump. With one game to go, Urney's two wins in a row has them in contention once more.
U16 Championship Preliminary Round Weds 24th August - Owen Roe's 1-4 Tattyreagh 1-9
Owen Roes' juveniles Championship ambitions bit the dust on Tues night when Tattyreagh left with a 5 point victory. Things started badly for the home side when midfielder Kevin O'Neill was carried off in the opening salvos, after he had pointed. Despite this Aaron Doherty hit a goal, and a Paul Devine point gave the O'Neills a 1-2 to 0-3 lead at the break.
The second half was a different game as the Tatts came back into it. Only two scores from the Conor's, McCrea and McCay were registered as the game ended 1-9 to 1-4 in favour of the visitors.
Mon 5th Sept - Loughmacrory 3-12 Owen Roe's 1-3
Despite leading by a point at half-time, Owen Roes lost this final game of the 2005 season. This defeat sees the Leckpatrick side miss out on a last 8 spot by a sinle point to Urney.
