U12/U10/U8 Prize giving- The Club hosted the annual prize giving ceremony for the Club's 12s and under age groups on Friday 29th October. With the Club rooms packed with parents and children it certainly proved a success for the team. The night started with the Club's youth officer Gerard Kelly thanking the parents and children for attending tonight, and indeed their attendance and diligence at training throughout the summer.
Gerard then went on to point out the success that the Club has started to breed at underage level, "Last year was a good year for us with the never to be forgotten feat of our U14s in lifting the grade 3 Championship and then the All Ireland Feile title. However we don't want that being just a one off. We want to continue to develop our underage players as people as well as footballers. This year we are seeing signs that the future is bright for Owen Roes. The under 12s played 10 games in their league, winning 8 and losing 2, meaning they topped their section. The application and dedication of the players at training was the reason for this success." Gerard went on to thank the u12 management team of Ben McNulty and Tony McGonigle for the time and efforts during the summer.
Next up was the Club's U10s and U8s. Again Gerard thanked the players and the parents for their help and dedication throughout the year. Again this is another age group showing promise for the future, with a lot of wins collated over the year at the monthly blitzes. Gerard thanked the efforts of the coaches at this level as well, Sarah Jane Kelly, Ronan Parker, and Stephen Kelly. It was pointed out that on most days over 50 children were present at training, which was a positive sign of the future for Gaelic in the parish.
Gerard finally thanked the U10s sponsor Charles O'Doherty for his generous contribution to the team's kit, something which was appreciated by everyone at the Club.
Brendan Boggs, Tyrone VS All Ireland winning captain, then presented the team's with their various awards, before being asked to say a few words. Brendan, who has pocketed three All Ireland winning medals over the last two seasons stressed the importance of the coach in Gaelic, "I would like to congratulate the various underage teams here at the Club on the season you have had. Hopefully you will take what you have learnt through to u-16, minor and then hopefully help us boys get out of division 3." Brendan ended the night by adding, "If I could give one piece of advice it would be to keep practicing the basics of the game, catching, passing, and handling, and most importantly always listen to your coaches."
