Tyrone Summer Camp a Huge Success

The Owen Roes/Tyrone summer camp proved to a be a mammoth success. Almost 50 children, aged 6 through to 12, attended the 4 day camp. The camp was ran by two qualified coaches from the Tyrone County board, and its aim was to teach the children some of the basic skills of Gaelic Football, but in an environment that was fun filled.

Highlight of the 4-day event was the visit on Thursday of Peter Canavan and the Sam Maguire Trophy. Peter took time out to talk to the children about last year's AI victory and the part that the fans played in 'bringing Sam home'. Canavan also gave the young players a world exclusive when he revealed 'I will definitely be on the bench on Saturday'. One young player asked him was this the same way he was on the bench against Donegal!

Peter told the children that they should keep playing, and practicing, but most importantly keep enjoying playing Gaelic Football, before going on to say that he hoped some of them in a few years time would emulate Declan McCrossan and bring Sam to Glenmornan again.

The coaches then gave out the awards for the four days, with Johnathan Harte emerging as the Camp's representative on County final day in Healy Park. That's one Harte in a Final this year! Well down Johnathan.

Thanks to both Stephen and Claire, the coaches from the Tyrone County Board, for their great work all week, and to Peter Canavan for honoring us with his attendance. Special thanks too, to all from the Club who helped out all week, making tea, looking after the children etc.
