Long League Wait Ends!

Owen Roes 1-10 Brackaville 0-5

Owen Roes picked up their first league win of the season as they hosted namesakes Brackaville in Urney on Sunday afternoon. After a scrappy first half, the Leckpatrick side pulled clear in the second period to eventually end their winless league steak.

Brackaville opened the keener of the two sides, and clocked up an early two points to zero lead. However the East Tyrone side also struck a plethora of wides in the opening quarter, which ultimately cost them dearly. Kevin O'Donnell got the O’Neill’s opening score with a neat finish, with Kiernan Kelly levelling up. Kelly's second score give the Green and Reds a 0-3 to 0-2 half time lead.

Minutes in to the second half Owen Roes received a massive boost as the on form Kelly half volleyed Ronan Parker's flick on into the net, and when Aidan McCrossan pointed twice the O’Neill’s looked set.

Brackaville hit three unanswered scores to keep the hosts on their toes, but good work from Kiernan Kelly allowed Parker to point as Owen Roes looked to maintain the initiative. Sub Ryan Stewart showed well to set up McCrossan for his third point as Brackaville’s challenge faded. The visitors were reduced to 14 men minutes later, which effectively ended their hopes.

Stephen Dooher came off the bench and with his first touch split the posts, before McCrossan clipped over. As time ticked away the industrious O’Donnell teed up his minor colleague Marcus McGinley to raise a white flag and the Leckpatrick sides first points of the season were sealed.
