MATCH REPORTS

WJ Dolan Junior Championship

Fri 10th Aug

Owen Roe's 0-3 Beragh 1-13

The club's reserve footballers gave a very disappointing display to exit the 2007 Championship with a whimper. The visiting Red Knights who last year's reserve Championship led 0-4 to no score before Conor McCay worked a short free over the bar after 16 minutes. It looked like a game was on the cards when Damian McIntyre pulled another back before Beragh closed the half 0-6 to 0-2 ahead.

The second half was virtually one way traffic, with a 36th minute Beragh goal killing the game off. Only a 46th minute McCay free to show for the hosts efforts, whose bad evening was compounded by Stephen Kelly's 40th minute second yellow card dismissal.

Owen Roes: Aaron Doherty, Joe Kelly, Kevin Doherty, Paul Devine, Kevin O'Donnell, Gerard Devine, Eamon McBride, Clarke Stephenson, Marcus McGinley, Damian McIntyre (0-1), Stephen Kelly, John Harper, Davy Harte, Conor McCay (0-2), Ryan Logue. Subs: Ryan Stewart, Dermot McMenamin, Gerard McShane, Rory Devine.

Young Roe's Reserves Start with a Win

Dregish 0-3 Owen Roes 3-9

Fielding an inexperienced line up, the reserve football team of Owen Roe’s got the season off to a good start with a comfortable win in Dregish on Sunday past.

The O’Neills got the game off to a dream start with centre-half forward Stephen Boyle hitting 1-1 with only three minutes on the watch. With the experience of Boyle, and Stephen Kelly being supported well by young Marcus McGinley, and some classy defending by Brian Kelly the Leckpatrick side were always in control.

Indeed it was two points from Kelly than were next on the board, before Dregish got their opening scores in the 25th and 29th minutes. All the same it was the visitors who finished the half best. McGinley and Davy Harte combined for Kelly to chalk another goal, before Conor McCay raised an injury time White flag.

McCay got the second half’s opening score, before substitutes Dermot McMenamin and Ryan Logue got in on the act. McCay was at it again followed by a score from corner forward Damian McIntyre. Dregish got the game’s last score in injury time, but not before another sub Sean Ferguson ran through and found the net well to end a good day’s work for the second string.

Owen Roes: Barry McCrossan, Cathal Dooher, James McCrossan, Gerard McShane, Rory Devine, Brian Kelly, Ryan Stewart, Stephen Kelly (1-2), Marcus McGinley, Danny Barr, Stephen Boyle (1-1), Paul Devine, Davy Harte, Conor McCay (0-3), Damian McIntyre (0-1) Subs: Dermot McMenamin (0-1) for Paul Devine 30 mins, Ryan Logue (0-1) for Danny Barr 30 mins, Aaron Doherty for McMenamin 45 mins, Sean Ferguson for Harte 52 mins, Andy Devine for McCay 52 mins.

Drumragh Bench Pressed!

Owen Roes 1-10 Drumragh 0-10

The advantage of a strong bench was evident in Glenmornan as subs chalked up 1-5 of their 1-10 scoreline. A fine Davy Harte point shot Roes into an early lead, but the visitors rattled off five points in a row to take control. Mark O'Neill picked up a consolation point for missed penalty, but a Drumragh free, and scores from O'Neill, and Damian McIntyre closed the half.

The Sarsfields got the second half's two opening points, before two O'Neill efforts in a minute kept the hosts in touch. The visitors got another score cancelled by a Ryan Logue point. With 51 minutes a further visitors score left them three to the good. However two John Harper frees and a Damian McIntyre point left it even. With only a minute remaining on the watch the home side charged forward again, and Barry Porter was on hand to coolly place the ball into the roof of the net to give the home side victory.

Owen Roes: Andy Devine, Cathal Dooher, James McCrossan, Gerard Devine, Rory Devine, Brian Kelly, Ryan Stewart, Marcus McGinley, Stephen Kelly, Conor McIntyre, Mark O’Neill (0-4), Davy Harte (0-1), Paddy Corry, Conor McCay, Rory McColgan.

A reserve side essentially made up of minor players went down to a clinical Rock outfit tonight. 2-8 to no score at the break, the hosts were restricted in the second half, as the Roe's fared better. However only a pair of Ryan Logue points and one from Conor McCay troubled the scoreboard for the Leckpatrick outfit.

Roe's Strike Back for Draw

Three points ahead at the break, they didn't score for the whole of the second half sparking a 0-9 to 1-14 reverse. In the first half John Harper was on fire scoring 0-4, with a fine individual point by Michael Caldwell the highlight of the period.

Roes Reserves Roll Rock

With just 1 defeat all season, Rock's second string would've been well fancied to continue that run today. However they came up against an Owen Roes side in fine form. Goals from Gerard Kelly, and Dermot McMenamin seeing the youthful Roe's side home.

Gerard Kelly (1-1), Dermot McMenamin (1-0), Ryan Logue (0-1), Mark O'Neill (0-2), John Harper (0-1), Conor McCay (0-2)
