Primary School Blitz 2005
Owen Roes hosted their Annual Primary Schools Blitz on Saturday 18th June. Around 50 children took part in the mini- festival of football with the 3 local schools, Evish, Glenmornan and Cloughcor, being represented. After a morning of entertaining football Dublin, and Mayo emerged as the top two sides. The final was a tight affair, with some fantastic points on display, before the Dubs emerged victors.
Owen Roe’s Youth Officer, Gerard Kelly, thanked Johnny Kelly of the Fir Tree's Hotel for once again sponsoring the event. Thanks was also extended to all the parents and supporters who turned up to offer support for the competition, to the managers and mentors who helped the children, to all who helped with the cooking and catering and to the club's two referees Tracey Harper and Duck Mc Cay for refereeing the day's proceedings. Gerard also added his appreciation to all the club coaches who give up their time to coach children from U-8 through to U-10, U-12, U-14, U-16, Minor and adult football. In his speech Gerard highlighted to the youngsters how players such as Declan McCrossan, and guest for the day Brendan Boggs, have represented their County in recent years after learning their trade at underage level with the Leckpatrick Club. These are the players that they should look up to.
All was left was for Gerard to hand over to Tyrone vocational school's All-Ireland winning captain, and Owen Roes player, Brendan Boggs who made presentations to all the players who took part. The Club extends its thanks to Gerard Kelly for all the organisation that went into making the Blitz such a success, to all who helped out in any way and of course to all the children who took part.
