McGinley's Screamer Clinches Points

Owen Roes 1-8 Aghyaran 1-6

With league qualification on a knife edge, this was a crucial game for both sides as Aghyaran visited Glenmornan. After an exciting contest it was the home side that took the spoils, thanks in part to a rasping Marcus McGinley goal.

The opening exchanges were cagey and Dermot McMenamin's placed free cancelled out an early Aghyaran point. The St.Davogs regained the lead, but a neat left footed Kevin O'Donnell score tied it again.

McGinley fisted over his first score of the game on the quarter hour, before the hosts gave Aghyaran a fillip. Possession lost in centre field allowed Aghyaran to break in numbers and ultimately give Conor Friel zero chance in goals.

McGinley got one back, before Gerard Devine burst forward from his defensive duties to level up. McGinley got his third white flag of the night on 29 minutes but their North Tyrone neighbours restored parity as the half ended.

Ryan Logue got the O'Neills off to a strong second half start with a point, that was cancelled out straight away. However the contest's key play was about to unfurl.

Stephen McCauley's brave defending earned his side a free kick in their own half. However the quickly taken kick, allowed play to open up, and reach McGinley. The big midfielder took aim, and lashed the ball past the visiting number one.

Despite spades of possession, the Green and Reds couldn't add to their tally. Paul Devine was caught in two minds and screwed a goal chance wide, while Neil McCrossan's drive was well smothered by the Aghyaran keeper. All the while Aghyaran carried a threat, and two points from play kept the game alive.

However with a few minutes remaining David Ferguson's good work allowed Devine forward for the game's insurance point.
