Wed 28th March at 6:45pm- Owen Roe's 1-11 Glenelly 0-08

Owen Roe's picked up their first two points of the 2007 season with a seven point victory over neighbours Glenelly. In a game that was tighter than the scoreline reflected Owen Roe's can look to stopper Conor Friel, and two brave saves at crucial stages of the second half. Level at half-time the home side had a fruitful spell at the start of the second half to rattle off four unanswered points. The visitors came back, but those Friel saves, some stout defending and some economic O'Neill's scoring proved the difference. Conor McCay rattled off a fine goal in the last minute to seal both points for the Green and Reds.

Wed 4th April at 7:00pm- Owen Roe's 3-09 Newtownstewart 1-08

The home side shook off an extremely lethargic opening quarter to storm back to victory in round 2 of tonight's Minor League. The visitors emerged strongest and lead 1-5 to 0-1 after 15 minutes. However slowly but surely the O'Neill's came back into it and went in at the break a point in arrears thanks mainly to a fortuitous goal by Ryan Logue. However the Leckpatrick boys were more focused in the second half and another Logue goal, and an opportunist Gerard McShane strike saw them home. The result augers a handy two points for the Owen Roe's side, but it's unlikely that they will get away with such a sluggish start again.

Wed 11th April at 7:00pm- Loughmacrory 1-13 Owen Roe's 1-02

Despite a Kevin O'Neill goal, Owen Roes proved no match for a slick Loughmacrory outfit. With only a point separating the sides going into the break the visitors were very much in it, but the hosts applied the gas and ran away with it in the second half to keep their 100% record.

Thurs 19th April at 7:15pm- Owen Roe's 0-6 Urney 1-9

Economy in possession told the difference and was the deciding factor in this derby grade 2 clash. The home side held possession for much of the game, but failed to turn it into scores on the board. In contrast the Urney team were more accurate in front of the posts, and with dead balls. However Owen Roes can point to two incidents that might have made it a different tale. Firstly midfielder Kevin O'Neill burst through a rifled a rasping drive to the net, only for the ref to blow his whistle as O'Neill let fly, to award the midfielder a routine free in.

In the second half, the Leckpatrick side got a penalty for an Urney technical foul, but Ryan Logue dragged his spot-kick wick of the post. This provided the away side with the impetus to press on, with Lafferty, and Lynch pulling strings. With five minutes to go Devine hit a major which ended O'Neill's chances.

Wed 25th April at 7:15pm - Eskra 1-11 Owen Roe's 1-05

A poor display by the visitors resulted in a 6-point reversal in Eskra. The Roes were forced to complete the game with 14 men, with Ryan Logue dismissed.

Wed 9th May at 7:30pm- Fintona 1-5 Owen Roe's 0-5

Owen Roe's hopes of qualifying for the league knock out stages took a huge blow in Fintona this evening as they went down by 3-points to the host side. Once again the Roe's ended without their full compliment, which has cost them dear this season.

With one round of fixtures remaining, the O'Neills must win their last game and then wait on other results to go their way.

Wed 23rd May at 7:30pm- Owen Roe's 1-5 Beragh 1-13

Owen Roe's hopes of reaching the league knock-out stages evaporated in Glenmornan tonight, as the visiting Red Knights gained revenge for a Championship defeat 3 weeks ago. The home side had the best possible start when with less than 1 minute gone Dermot McMenamin bagged a goal. However the visitors upped their game and at half-time had comeback to tie 1-2 to 0-5.

The home side didn't emerge for the second period with very few players covering themselves in glory. McMenamin ended with a tally of 1-5, as Beragh's efficiency in front of the sticks saw them home. Martin Rogers got the goal for Beragh with 10 minutes remaining.

Preliminary Round Wed 2nd May- Owen Roe's 3-07 Beragh 1-08

The minor side of Owen Roes produced a neat display to emerge five point winners over the visiting Red Knights. The O'Neills were forced to field without several of their first choice players, but were held the visitors at arm's length throughout thanks to good performances from midfielders Kevin O'Donnell, and Marcus McGinley. In addition the dangerous Martin Rodgers was well curtailed by the excellent Gerard Devine.

Good work by Conor McCay teed up Davy Ferguson for the Roe's first goal as they led by four at the break. In the second half Conor Friel finished well to the net, before fine football by Friel released sub Neil McCrossan for a thumping shot past the keeper. McNamee hit a late goal for the visitors, but it was too late and it was the Leckpatrick side that advance.

Quarter Final Tues 19th June- Urney 0-6 Owen Roe's 3-8

Owen Roe's caused something of a shock tonight, as Championship favourites Urney tumbled out of the competition on home soil. In what was a fine team performance it was a destructive first quarter that did the damage. Early points from Dermot McMenamin, and Davy Harte settled Roe's nerves before Conor McCay burst through to find the net with a fine shot on 10 minutes.

Four minutes later and the O'Neills bagged again. This time a high ball fell to McMenamin who in turn found the top corner of the net. Two more McMenamin frees closed out the half, as the visitors led 2-4 to 0-3 at the short whistle.

Any hopes of an Urney fight back where dashed within minutes of the restart as Conor McIntyre drove the ball to the net, followed by a clipped point from Ryan Logue. Fine defending by Stephen McCauley, Gerard Devine and Gerard McShane ensured that the hosts had no path through, and points from McCay, Kevin O'Donnell and McIntyre ended the contest.

This was a good Owen Roe's performance, and a sign of what they can do when they show discipline and focus. However the question will be can they produce this on a consistent basis.

Owen Roe’s Minors Suffer Championship Heartache

Owen Roes 1-13 Naoimh Mhuire 1-14 (AET) in Greencastle

There was semi-final disappointment for the minor footballers of Owen Roe’s in this grade 2 minor Championship semi-final on Monday evening. After a pulsating tie only a single kick separated the sides as the Killyman/Edendork hybrid of Naomh Mhuire won through.

In a game that was close throughout, Dermot McMenamin was first on the board with a 5th minute short free. Niall Mallon of Naomh Mhuire, and Conor McCay traded frees before a productive spell for the East Tyrone side, as their number 11 blitzed two points in a minute.

As the quarter ended, it was to get better for Naomh Mhuire, as their corner forward blitzed a quick fire 1-1 to move five points to the good. McCay and Mallon once again traded frees, as the O’Neills looked for a route back into the contest. With 19 minutes elapsed they found it.

Kevin O’Neill, and Conor Friel traded passes before the latter’s pointed effort dropped short. However poacher McMenamin was alive to the opportunity and ghosted in to blast to the net.  Naomh Mhuire though finished the half stronger, and hit a brace of points either side of a Friel white flag.

Three in arrears, the Leckpatrick lads had to knuckle down to battle back. However scores were hard to come by, and it took a 45th minute McMenamin free before a score was registered. None the less, the O’Neills were scrapping hard. Kevin O’Neill and Davy Harte battling through the pain barrier, and Kevin O’Donnell, Marcus McGinley and the excellent Ryan Stewart scavenging for priceless possession.

Harte chalked another back for his side, following sterling work by Ryan Logue, before the ever dangerous Mallon hit yet another dead ball to keep Naomh Mhuire noses in front. McGinley and the East Tyrone side’s wing back traded scores, as time ticked through.

Down by a brace, Conor McCay converted a short free, and within a minute weaved through to equalise. With eight minutes remaining, neither side could muster the opportunity to win the game.

In the first period of extra time scoring was scarce, with only a Dermot McMenamin free in reply to a pair of Niall Mallon points the only incidents of note.

The second period of extra time was almost a mirror image of the first, a brace of Mallon points either side of a McMenamin dead ball put Naomh Mhuire two to the good. With time running out, the North Tyrone side had to go to the well once more.

Logue hit a stylish effort with three minutes remaining to put the minimum in it once again, before McCay and McMenamin combined for the later to blaze over the equalizer. With nerves frayed and the game almost up, it was the East Tyrone side that managed to find the space to send over a late winner and break Owen Roe’s hearts.

This was a determined, gutsy display by the Leckpatrick side. They dominated much of the contest, but couldn’t find the space to turn possession into scores thanks to tight defending. Despite the disappointment, the team should have pride in their efforts. With only 5 of the squad overage next year, with continued application these boys are sure to bounce back.

Owen Roes: Aaron Doherty, Stephen McCauley, Gerard Devine (c), Gerard McShane, Conor Friel (0-1), Ryan Stewart, Davy Harte (0-1), Kevin O’Neill, Marcus McGinley (0-1), Ryan Logue (0-1), Kevin O’Donnell, Conor McIntyre, Conor McCay (0-4) Devine, Dermot McMenamin (1-5) Subs: Neil McCrossan, Sean Ferguson, James Gormley, and Aaron Lynch.
